Abstract

Proceedings of IATL 19

It has become standard practice in current syntactic theory to assume that the external θ-role originates in a functional projection dominating the lexical verbal projection. The paper reassesses this assumption, and shows that the arguments it is based on are inadequate and that there are in fact good reasons to believe that the external θ-role must be available in the lexicon.
