This paper looks at the floating quantifier placement in English. In this paper I examine the role of phonology in the determination of floating quantifiers’ placement. Phonological constraints will be shown to be the determining factor in floating quantifier placement. Syntax will be shown to determine the available positions and then phonology determines which of these positions the floating quantifier will be realized in. Through analysis of the phonology and prosody we can understands why the floating quantifier occupies a specific position in the linear string.
